I was recently meeting with a client about a potential job when she started talking about how difficult working with contractors had been. She had some DIY skills and had done several projects on investment properties, but her life today was different and she no longer had the time to devote to these projects.
Instead, she had to find someone to do the work for her. From talking with her I learned:
She needed to find someone to first return her calls to get quotes.
Someone who was reliable.
Someone who would be there when they said they would.
As her particular project was lengthy, she had to find someone she trusted to be in her home when she was not.
Interestingly enough, the last thing on her priority list was someone she felt had the skills to do the job.
